Aggressive dogs pose serious safety concerns, in many cases, causing severe and fatal injuries as a result of dog attacks and dog bites. While California law does not identify certain dog breeds as vicious, specific types of dogs appear frequently in reported dog bites and dog attacks. Certain breeds that are larger than most dogs and have stronger jaws tend to cause more serious injuries when they attack or bite people.

If you or someone you love has been attacked by an aggressive dog, it’s critical to speak to an experienced dog attack lawyer about your situation.

Encino Pit Bull Attack Lawyers Helping People Bitten by Aggressive Dogs

While certain situations can stimulate dogs to react aggressively such as maternal defensiveness, territorial defense, and other normal coping responses, certain breeds such as pit bulls show more aggressive behavior than other dogs. Pit bulls are typically larger and stronger and are more likely to disable, severely injure, or kill people when they attack.

A research study found that while pitbulls make up only 6% of the dog population, this breed was responsible for 68% of all dog attack and 52% of dog-related deaths since 1982.

Other dog breeds that have been involved in severe dog attacks are:

  • Rottweilers
  • Huskies
  • Mastiffs (Presa canarios)
  • German shepherds
  • Dobermans

But regardless of a dog’s breed, all dog owners have the responsibility to maintain their dogs in such a manner that does not cause harm or injury to people when in a public place or to visitors at home. Children, either due to their small size or unfamiliarity with dogs, are particularly prone to aggressive dog attacks which result in severe injuries and disfigurement.

In California, a dog owner is legally responsible for injuries that their dog inflicts on another person, regardless of the dog’s breed or the dog’s history of aggressive behavior. If an aggressive dog attacked you while on public property or while you were lawfully on private property, you are entitled to compensation. The law does not require you to establish evidence of the dog previously biting another person or of the dog’s vicious behavior; although proof of an aggressive dog’s vicious tendencies may provide the basis for an award for punitive damages or other types of damages.

Our Encino aggressive dog bite attorneys are prepared to thoroughly investigate your injuries and build a strong case in order to help you recover compensation for all your medical expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering.
