Distracted driving is an issue that continues to haunt Californians.

The latest news report concerning a deadly accident caused by a distracted driver is hitting the news and as more people learn about the tragic accident, more will begin looking into the distracted driving matter with different eyes. The distracted driving auto vs. bicycle accident caused by a driver in Sacramento unfortunately resulted in a fatality.

According to several news sources, a father and son were riding their bicycles on the westbound lanes of Edison Avenue just west of Fulton Avenue when the 25-year-old driver allowed his vehicle to drift into the bike lane. The 33-year-old father died as a result of his injuries while the 7-year-old son was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver took eyes off the road prior to the collision. The reason? He was reading a text message on his phone.

The tragic accident happened because distraction allowed the driver to take his eyes away from the road, the California Highway Patrol. As a result, a life was taken and a child is now in a coma. While the CHP investigates, no further comments regarding the charges are made available.

Drivers are urged to keep in mind that tragic accidents such as the Sacramento accident continue to expose countless innocent victims to serious problems. If motorists are not serious about making sure they are not putting innocent people to unnecessary danger, they should also be serious about having their attention fully focused on the road ahead and the act of driving.
